[NOVICE] Wouldn’t it be nice to spend less time typing and more time surfing? Getting to the information you need quickly helps you get your work and personal projects done faster.
The secret? Knowing a few keystroke shortcuts can shave time off your web searches.
Seven Web Search Shortcuts
If you use Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox as your web browser, instead of using your mouse, try these shortcuts to speed up your web searches:
- F6 – To go to a new page when you have a browser window open, instead of moving your mouse up to the address bar, highlighting what’s there, deleting it and typing in the new address, just press F6 and the current URLwill be highlighted and you just have to start typing the page you would like to go to.
- Ctr + Enter – When you start typing a website address, press Ctrl then Enter to let it automatically fill in the “.com” for you.
- F5 – To Refresh a website page, instead of using your mouse to find the Refresh button in the toolbar, the F5 key does it for you quickly.
Arrow Buttons – Instead of using the scroll bar to “scroll down” to read the page, use the Up or Down arrow button to move a few lines at a time.- Page Up/Page Down – To move through big chunks of a page, use the Page Up or Page Down button to roll through a website page rapidly.
- Ctrl T – If you already have a web browser open, to add a new website tab in your browser, try the Ctrl T shortcut (“T” for Tab).
- F11 - To view a website page in full screen mode on your computer monitor, F11 is the secret. Press F11 to hide the top and bottom status bars. To go back to regular view, press F11 again.
It takes trying these tips and doing them a few times to engrain them them in your brain. Pick a few and try them out on your next web search.
